The Thin Blue Line RPG
Right what is this. It is NOT a game version of the UK sitcom of the same name. Hopefully the subtitle of the book clarifies this "A Detroit Police Story"
This is an image of the Player's Guide. As well as clearly stating the author Jason Marker, you will see the Savage Worlds logo. You need the Savage Worlds core rulebook and Horror Companion to run this game.
It was Kickstarted by Melior Via last year. Currently available through the www.drivethrurpg.com website. It is available in pdf and print on demand. There is the full rulebook and the Player's Guide (which is the first 5 chapters of the main book). I purchased the Players Guide in PDF to see if I liked it (which I did) and then purchased the main book in print form. The nice thing with the Player's Guide is that Melior Via allow you to give up to 5 copies of the Player's Guide to your players which means hands off my lovely book!
So what is it about. Cops in Detroit, specifically working in the Corktown precinct. What makes this groovy is that there is paranormal weirdness going on and you are the guys defending against it but .... you have to do it behind the scenes and hush hush to avoid panic etc. So nobody knows (outside the Corktown precinct) what you and fellow officers do, especially the other precincts who look down on Corktown and consider full of washouts and failures. In Corktown you are either a psychic cop or one who has survived an encounter with paranormal shenanigans. Oh you can still encounter mundane crime as well.
What I really like about this book is detail about Detroit. Mr Marker really did his homework. Chapter 1 is basically a history of Detroit with a little paranormal craziness sprinkled on top, some of it based on local legend eg Le Nain Rouge. 40 pages of quality background fluff. Then it's the Corktown chapter which explains the how and why of the modern Corktown precinct. Character Creation follows then Parapsychology (Psychic powers etc) then Gear Locker (Equipment). That is the contents of the Player's Guide. The main book has a further 2 chapters Persons of Interest (does what it says on the tin) and Shift Briefing (adventures)
This is a quality modern horror setting for the Savage Worlds system. Apart from the Core Book and Player's Guide, there is a 1-Sheet Adventure, a map of the game's version of Detroit and GM screen inserts. I do hope Melior Via do more for this game. I am prepping this to run with my gaming group (as long as Cthulhu doesn't get in the way!)
