Kickstarters
Earlier posts has shown I have backed a few Kickstarters. Apart from the really big RPG companies, more and more companies are using this method to raise finances to publish their books and of course it is popular with boardgame companies as well. What did I kickstart?
These in no particular order
RPG
Savage Rifts - The conversion of Rifts to the Savage Worlds system. I love Rifts but the system is clunky. Savage Worlds, to quote their tagline, is fast furious fun. I just stand a much better chance of introducing the Savage version to the the guys I play with rather than the denser original system.
The Dark Eye. which is the English translation of Das Schwarze Auge. The bestselling fantasy rpg in Germany, basically there equivalent of D&D. It is a D20 system so shares certain mechanics but is definitely it's own beast. The level of complexity is comparable to D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder systems. It has just one game world that is wonderfully detailed. The rulebook is very pretty, very good art throughout
I have received these two, everything else is still in production
Trudvang Chronicles and Lex Occultum. Both by Riotminds and again are English translations, this time time from the original Swedish (Sweden is just banging out so much good stuff at the moment). Trudvang is fantasy, based Norse and Celtic myth. The art on the Kickstarter page is amazing as are the art in the updates they have sent out. It is at final proof reading before final compilation and being sent to printer so I am hoping for an Oct delivery on that one. Lex Occultum is much further out and not due til next year Occult and secret societies in the 18th Century. Art again awesome but in a completely different style to Trudvang
Hudson and Brand. Gaslight era book for Call of Cthulhu. In final layout, hopefully get the pdf next month and hopefully the physical book to much longer after that. Basically Hudson and Brand is the name of an inquiry agency and can be used as a base for the players. Again the snippets shown to backers, this is going to lood gooooddd!
Boardgames
Statecraft. Politics game, somewhat tongue in cheek. Was on show at Games Expo, this should be printed now so waiting for shipping, this should be imminent. Looking forward to this
Elemenz. Dice game. Great looking dice. Different play modes and also a quick game. Gone are the days when we had hours upon hours playing games eg that Axis and Allies game on my home page, we never managed to finish it. So it is important to have some quick games as well as the longer ones. Not due to next year
Bar the Savage Rifts, they have all been EU based kickstarters. Postage from the States is getting well expensive (I nearly bailed on the Savage Rifts Kickstarter when I saw the postage charges) and it make me reluctant to back US Kickstarters which is a shame.
So to sum up I should get three of these in the next couple of months and the other two sometime next year. Good times.
