Gaming roundup
It is that time of year isn't it. Colds abound and it caused me to cancel the last session of the The One Ring which is a pain. it is likely that one of the player won't be able to make the next session. The classic case of real life getting in the way. I am still not feeling brilliant .
Main gaming at the moment is Warhammer 40k. I am finally venturing into 8th Edition. As my army of choice is Space Wolves I don't currently have a Codex (rumoured to be coming out in June) so I have to rely on Index Imperium 1. This means I don't have any specific Warlord traits and there is a lot of back and forth finding stuff. Unique Space Wolf stuff is in their section, general Space marine stuff is in that section which it takes time when writing up the armies. I can't say I am impressed with the Detachment Rosters, I really think they should mimic the Datasheets in the Codexes and Indexes, all the information is to hand.
So anyway the battle. I forgot to bring my camera so no pictures. 1000pt Space Wolves allied with 1000pt Imperial Guard versus 2000pt Imperial Guard (ok now known as Astra Militarum). We faced tanks which decimated my units of Grey Hunters, power armour is good but not that good. Got my tactics wrong with my Terminators. Under 8th you can move, shoot and charge. It was very much a learning game. We won because of objectives. This is key with a lot of battles, It isn't just battering the other side. Most missions will give you a victory point for first blood but that's it, the majority of points come from Objectives either having control of them or from cards.
In a nutshell we won because the number of victory points we had (the mission we were playing generated a objective card for each objective location we had and for most of the game we had 4 and generally were able to cash in 1 a round. Good fun, and a good learning exercise. As long as this cold doesn't worsen, it'll be 1500 Space Wolves with 1500 Imperial Guard V 3000 of 'Nid Xenos filth! To War!
